Beaches

Calasetta is a charming town located on the island of Sant'Antioco, in the southwestern region of Sardinia. This picturesque fishing village is renowned for its beaches, crystal clear waters and its unique culture influenced by Ligurian traditions.

Calasetta is easily reached from the Sardinian mainland via the bridge that connects the island of Sant'Antioco to Sardinia. For those arriving by plane, from Cagliari-Elmas airport you can reach it by car or by train (to Carbonia) + bus.

Calasetta also offers

  • Calasetta Tower: An 18th century watchtower located on the coast, with breathtaking views of the sea and the village.
  • Museum of Contemporary Art: Showcases works by local and international artists, celebrating modern art in a unique setting.
  • Tourist Port: Ideal for panoramic walks, it offers the possibility of renting boats or leaving for excursions to Carloforte (San Pietro island).
  • Festivals and Traditions:
  • Feast of San Maurizio: The patron saint of Calasetta is celebrated with processions, music and traditional dishes.
  • Cous Cous Festival: A testimony to the Ligurian and North African cultural influence.

Calasetta's cuisine is a delicious blend of Sardinian and Ligurian traditions, with dishes that celebrate the flavors of the sea and the land. Here are some culinary specialties to try:

1. Calasetta Cascà

A local variant of couscous, introduced by Ligurian ancestors. Prepared with durum wheat semolina, vegetables such as cabbage, courgettes and chickpeas, and flavoured with spices. It is a vegetarian dish rich in flavour.

2. Tuna in all its variations

Being close to the tuna fisheries, Calasetta offers fresh tuna cooked in various ways: grilled, in oil or in tartare.

3. Local wines

Carignano del Sulcis: A full-bodied red wine produced in the surrounding vineyards.
